The Best of Franglais, Part One

One of the delights of this adventure, is listening to our children learn French. Carson was already quite proficient when we arrived, thanks to his awesome French Immersion teachers and his Dad, but Riley are Margo are starting with only some basic French words. I can tell when the neighbourhood children have arrived outside, because Riley starts talking French, and his little voice, already deep and husky, goes deeper, and his accent changes. Margo just keeps speaking in her squeaky, sweet, sing-song little girl voice, although her pronunciation is astonishingly good, in both languages, for most things. (Dora, in french is Do-la!, and Margo in french is still Mar-de-go! most of the time...)

From Margo:

(to our bilingual neighbour, C--'s Mother) You know... You know... We speak, mmm, we speak, we speak en anglais!

(as we are driving through town) Look, look!! There's un chien! Did you see the chien?

I want to watch Dora en anglais, please!

And my favourite of Riley's, said during a game of hide and seek in our back yard:

M--, M--, ici, ici!! (accompanied by vigorous hand gestures to his friend to come hide in the bush with him.) C'est le it de T--! C'est le it de T--!!!
